WorkCover Licensing for Load Shifting EquipmentFollowing a two-stage review of the loadshifting classes that were not included in the National Standard for licensing persons performing high risk work (National Standard), WorkCover will initiate the following strategy until a final decision has been made. The four loadshifting classes will be retained as a state-based certificate of competency from 1 September 2009, but will require a move to registered training organisations (RTOs) by 31 March 2010.
FOR EMPLOYERS AND WORKERSWorkers can be assessed by a WorkCover accredited assessor until 31 December 2009, but after this date RTOs will manage all training and assessment processes. Before being assessed – and to be eligible for the licence assessment – you must undertake recognised training through the RTO, or provide evidence of prior training that maps to the recognised training requirements. This system will replicate the requirements for the licence types that were selected for the National Standard – i.e. forklift, dogging, rigging, scaffolding, pressure equipment, cranes and hoists (which commenced on 1 September 2009). Employers and workers should contact 13 10 50. Applicants need to produce 100 points of ID - Evidence of Identity Applicants need to be 18 years old to apply for a WorkCover license
